JAZZ PlayformaceTM Program

Denise La Grassa's "Jazz Playformance" classes invite students to PLAY and CREATE in a world of musical games wrapped in rhythm, melody, word-play and story. Musical themes and songs come to life through a series of interactive games designed to tap into each student's creative thoughts and ideas. These ideas are crafted into songs and sketches.

Jazz Playformance games involve a series of themes from classical and jazz music, classic and modern poetry, and plays. Final performance of works created in Jazz Playformace will be performed at the Johnson Center for Performing Arts at Lincoln College.

Children will learn how to sing, explore, shape, and create melodies and poetry phrases into music and songs.
They can develop performance and movement skills while participating in jazz, classical, theater, poetry, and visual art exercises.
Jazz Playformance improvisation games focus on developing each student's unique individual style.
Students will craft their own "short songs" and group song.

Ages: 7-11 years (give or take a year)

Children's Ministry

Children and youth are the lifeblood of any congregation and First Presbyterian is no different.
We are committed to offering children and youth excellent opportunities to worship God, grow in faith,
and serve others in the name of Jesus Christ.

At First Presbyterian Church children are not sent away to a distant youth room or Sunday School class, but instead participate in congregational life. Youth serve regularly as worship leaders. In this role they lead the congregation in prayer, read Scripture, and have even preached the sermon on special occasions. Here at First Presbyterian Church children are not seen as the future of the Church, they are seen as its present.
